Nepal Army’s Bhim Gurung wins Everest Marathon

KATHMANDU

Nepal Army's Bhim Gurung won the thirteenth version of the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon on Monday. He completed the 42.195km race, which started from the Everest Base Camp at a height of 5364m and finished at Namche Bazar (3446m), in 4 hours, one moment and 54 seconds.

Similarly, Nepal's Surendra Basnet and Pasang Lama finished the separation in 4 hours 2 minutes and 18 seconds and 4 hours 11 minutes and 28 seconds separately to complete second and third. "A race at this height is exceptionally troublesome. I am extremely upbeat to have start things out," Gurung said. The world's most elevated marathon, which was initially planned for May 29, was put off as a result of the overwhelming seismic tremor on April 25. The current year's subject was "Raced to Rebuild – Khumbu". 
Robert Celinski of Poland secured first position in the Full Marathon Open Foreigners class, finishing the separation in 4:34:28. Leif David Chirstensen (6:19:41) and Daniel Keren (6:55:4), both of Australia, were second and third individually.

Andrew Leon Skidmore of the United States won the Half Marathon Open class. He finished the race, which began at Dingboche and finished at Namche Bazar, in 4:15:20. Two female competitors from Israel — Tal Yagur (4:28:32) and Danielle Wolfson (4:28:33) — completed second and third separately. 
Nepali runners won the Full Marathon Open Female class. Ang Dami Sherpa secured first position, finishing the separation in 6 hrs 5 mins and 43 seconds. Dawa Doma Sherpa (6 hrs 17 mins 55 seconds) and Nirkala Rai (6 hrs 33 mins 6 seconds) completed second and third individually in the classification. 
A sum of 30 global members contended with neighborhood competitors in the race which was separated into four classes – Open, Women, Foreigners and Half-marathon.

The primary version of the race was held in May 2003, denoting the 50th commemoration of the first victory of Mt Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary. Main three in open segment got Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 individually, while the main three in different classes sacked Rs 50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
